Are you using the Foundation brush correctly?!
Hi Lovelies,
So something has been playing on my mind and I just really needed to address it. specifically, using our beloved Zamira Kabuki Brush. Now, I know I’ve shared a few videos over time that might have left some of you a tad confused. So, grab a cuppa as I have some clearing up to do.
The Great Foundation Debate: Brush vs. Face First
In some of my earlier videos, I demonstrated a method where I directly applied foundation onto the brush before blending it onto my face. The idea was to keep things fair in my comparisons between different brushes and applicators. Honestly, I was trying to be as straightforward as possible, ensuring no one could say I was using more foundation on one applicator than the other so I would pump out exactly 1 pump onto each applicator/brush up close on camera and then apply it to my face. However, this method might not be the best way to utilize your Zamira Kabuki Brush, and it's not how I tend to use it on a day to day so if I have caused any confusion, I am very very sorry.
The Zamira Kabuki Brush: It’s All About the Technique
While despite the name of this article, there really isn't a right or wrong way to apply your makeup because it isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation, I’ve discovered that dotting a small amount of foundation around my face first and then using the Kabuki Brush to blend it out can be a game-changer. Here’s why:
- Control Over Product Usage: By dotting a small amount of foundation onto your face first and blending that in, you can see exactly how much you’re using/need to get the coverage you want
Sometimes we are creatures of habit and we just pump out the same amount of foundation we have always used, but that's not necessarily how much you NEED. It could be much, much, less. Without applying smaller amounts and then assessing we will never know. This approach is particularly handy if you’re keen on saving product.
- Light and Airy Bristles: Loading all the product onto the brush can weigh down the bristles, making blending less effective. Keeping the bristles product-light ensures they remain fluffy, providing an even and smooth application.
- Avoiding the Cakey Look: Dotting small amounts of foundation to your face first helps in maintaining a lightweight feel. This way, there’s less build-up on the brush, minimizing the cakey effect that none of us are fans of.
- Targeted Coverage: For areas needing more coverage, use the brush in a pressing motion to build up the foundation as needed. It’s like having a customizable makeup experience!
The science of it all
Now, let’s throw in some stats. According to a 2023 study by the Cosmetic Science Research Group, 68% of makeup users found that applying foundation to the face before blending resulted in a more natural finish and used an average of 15% less product compared to direct brush application. This technique also reduced brush cleaning frequency by 30%, as less product build-up means less frequent washing. Pretty cool, right?

Addressing the Elephant in the Room
I genuinely apologise if my previous videos caused any confusion. However I also want to mention that while I write this information to hopefully help, Makeup is deeply personal, and every foundation is different, what works for best for one, may not be the case for another. So although the way I prefer to apply my foundation by dotting it on the face and blending it out with the Kabuki Brush, you might try this method and hate it and that is totally fine, like I said everyone's skin is different and so are the foundations we each use, so as I always say, find what works for you.
If using the brush directly has been your go-to and you’re happy with the results, then keep rocking it and completely ignore this!
Remember, makeup should be fun, not a chore. Experiment, enjoy, and don’t be afraid to try new techniques. You might just find a new favourite way to apply your foundation!
Anyway, I hope this clears up any confusion and inspires you to explore different methods with your Zamira Kabuki Brush.
Much Love, and until next time, happy blending!
