4 SPFs That Won’t Ruin Your Makeup
I know what it's like. You finally commit to wearing SPF every day, you find something with decent reviews, and then the second your foundation goes on, it starts balling up like your skincare is having a breakdown. Not ideal.
Side note: If you are currently relying on your moisturiser to provide your SPF needs, I am sorry to say it's not cutting it...not even remotely.
For you to get the actual protection rating your moisturiser advertises, you would need to apply on average around 4 times your normal amount of moisturiser! 4x!!!
SPF Recommendations are one of my most commonly asked questions so I thought I would put together my top 4 and who they are perfect for.
Here are four that are worth your time.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVAir Invisible Fluid SPF50+
approx. £25
Best for oily and combination skin
This one has a near-legendary reputation for a reason. It’s the SPF that dermatologists recommend, editors repurchase, and oily skin people swear by. The texture is so light you genuinely forget it’s there, and it settles under makeup without a trace.
If you’ve ever dealt with sunscreen that turns your T-zone into an oil slick by 11am, this is the one to try. It keeps things calm and matte all day, plays nicely with most foundations on the market.
Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF50+ Luminising Skinscreen
approx. £34
Best for normal to dry skin
If you want your SPF to do a little extra, this is the one. It’s a serum-texture sunscreen that gives your skin that ‘I woke up like this’ glow before you’ve even touched your foundation. Layers without balling up.
Honest note: the finish is genuinely dewy. If you have oily skin and you’re skipping foundation, it might be a bit much. But under makeup it's great.
Bondi Sands Sunscreen Lotion SPF50+ Face:
approx. £10
Best for all skin types and anyone who hates spending a lot on SPF
Ten pounds. SPF50. No white cast, barely any scent, and it works under everything. This is a great affordable option.
It behaves as well under powder and foundation as it does under nothing at all. It gives a soft glow rather than a matte finish, so it leans more dry-skin-friendly, but genuinely it works across most skin types without complaint.
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50
approx £15.50
Best for dry, combination, slightly mature skin or sensitive eyes.
It’s packed with rice extract, niacinamide, probiotics, and hyaluronic acid, so it’s actually doing something for your skin while it protects it. The texture melts in, gives a soft healthy glow, and sits under foundation nicely.
It also doesn’t sting the eyes, which sounds like a low bar but honestly isn’t when it comes to face SPF.
Hopefully there is something here for everyone, the main thing is that a dedicated SPF is going to do much more for you than SPF inside a moisturiser ever could.
Which ever one you choose or use, doesn't matter, just as long as you are using one.
Your skin will absolutely thank you.
Much Love
